project brief
The Altair Colombo development is a landmark residential and commercial project in Sri Lanka. Rising to 240 metres, the scheme features two distinctive towers:
A 68-storey vertical tower
A 63-storey leaning (sloping) tower
With approximately 25,000m² of glazing installed across both structures, protecting these surfaces during construction was critical to maintaining quality and controlling costs.

The Challenge of Protecting Glazing on High-Rise Towers
On complex high-rise developments, glazing is exposed to multiple risks throughout construction, including:
- Scratches from installation and site activity
- Paint and mortar contamination
- Dust and debris build-up
Across large areas of glass, even minor damage can result in significant repair costs, delays, and programme disruption.
The Solution: Spray-Applied Temporary Glass Protection
To protect the glazing, Protectapeel temporary protective coating was applied to both internal and external surfaces. The spray-on, peelable coating created a durable protective barrier that:
- Protected glass from scratches, dirt, and site contamination
- Performed reliably across extended construction periods
- Enabled efficient coverage of large, high-rise façades
Its versatility made it ideal for a unique structure like the Altair Colombo towers.
the result
Once construction was complete, the coating was removed, leaving the glazing clean, undamaged, and ready for handover. This ensured the building's striking façade met the high standards expected of a landmark development.
Delivering a Clean Finish at Height
Once construction works were complete, the coating was simply peeled away, removing dust and debris along with it. This left behind clean, undamaged glass, ready for final presentation—helping ensure a smooth and efficient project handover.
Protecting Landmark High-Rise Developments Worldwide
On projects like the Altair Colombo towers, protecting glazing is essential to delivering both performance and visual impact. Using temporary glass protection coatings helps:
- Protect large-scale glazing installations
- Reduce delays and costly rework
- Maintain high-quality finishes
- Support efficient project delivery
